Discovering Ras Al Khaimah

This last Thursday I had the opportunity of doing some photography for an Outdoor Adventure company’s portfolio. Shoots like this are always such fun, because not only do I get to play with my camera I also get to meet amazing people who, like me, enjoy having fun in the outdoors.

A view of the tips of my feet while I was ‘chauffered’ around the mangroves in a kayak taking photos. Not a too shabby start to a day!

Even though I was mostly behind the camera catching Challenge Adventure in action I got to partake in some of the action too… After my archery debacle I am not sure I will be invited back for more though! Breaking the target stand with one swoosh of my arrow was a little unexpected for us all! My hosts/clients were however very gracious about the remains I left them with.

The remnants of the target stand after I had demolished it! Just as well I wasn’t Robin Hood’s last hope!

I left it to the pro’s after that little misadventure.

Challenge Adventure is an outdoor adventure company based in the UAE located in Wadi Bih, Ras Al Khaimah, the most Northern Emirate on the border of Musandam, Oman. RAK has some of the most dramatic scenery the 7 Emirates have to offer, and is definitely worth a visit.

I have lived here for 10 years now, and never get tired of going into the mountains. Challenge Adventure specialise in taking groups of adults, children and families on adventure based activities or camping trips, as well as offering experiential learning adventures for corporate groups and schools. They offer kayaking, raft building, mountain biking, trekking, archery, abseiling and will tailor make an outing to anyones interests.

Kayaking in the mangroves.

The Mangrove swamp is one of the most Northern situated mangroves in the world and runs quite literally through the centre of the city of Ras al Khaimah. Kayaking among the mangroves you would never imagine that this little gem is slap bang in the middle of the City.

Being watched with a fair amount of suspicion by the local wildlife…

If you enjoy this type of thing they are definitely worth contacting.  Mustafa and his crew are great, and enjoy what they do, which will translate into a great outdoor challenge for any intrepid adventurer. I for one am certainly going to avail myself of some of their outdoor challenges before the summer arrives in earnest!

Here are their links below if you want more information.

Learning to light fires with flint.

Raft building on Flamingo Beach.

Rock climbing in Wadi Bih.

Bouldering or in this case boulder dangling!

An end to a brilliant day of adventuring in the Mangroves and Wadi’s. Thank you to Mustafa and his team at Challenge Adventure for the amazing opportunity and experience.
