A little pre race chit chat with the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah
Participants all with a common cause gathered behind the arch to await the start gun for the 2016 Ras al Khaimah Terry Fox Run, which was held on the 26th February 2016 on the Corniche. This included both a 5km run and 3 km fun run/walk.
The Terry Fox Foundation raises millions of dollars every year for cancer research worldwide. It is a wonderful event organised by Rina Gauer aided by a very dedicated committee who in turn are supported by the local community, bringing everyone together for a very worthy cause. It is always filled with a wonderful sense of spirit and atmosphere. The very generous pledges, contributions and donations made by individuals in the community and businesses alike ensures that valuable cancer research is able to continue in the UAE.
The committee organiser, Rina Gauer with the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi
His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi officially starting the 7th Annual Terry Fox Run.
I was once again given the opportunity by the organiser of the event to take photographs of the mornings proceedings. I have been a part of this event since 2010 and I look forward to it every year. It is a very special event with a wonderful sense of community spirit. All for a great cause while we remember loved ones who fight cancer, and those who lost their battle to cancer. This year we saw over 4000 participants, a record so far, and one that grows with every year! A wonderful annual reunion for old friends, and familiar faces in the community to get together and do something for a worthy cause.
Our wonderful community of supporters who made this race possible and such a special event.
Well done on another fantastic RAK Terry Fox Run for cancer research in the UAE. And thank you to all the sponsors, and participants, because without them none of this would be possible!
Medals awarded to those who finished the race.
