Reef and Dune

Reef and Dune is our favourite go-to haunt. As owners of the Santa Lucia Guest House our guests are always asking us where to eat, and we always recommend our favourite, and for good reason! There are many restaurants in the main street, but Reef and Dune is 100m from us, offers consistently good food, and excellent service. An excellent restaurant in St. Lucia, situated inside the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a known World Heritage Site located in the province of Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa – what more could one ask for. The beauty of its location is however for another blog…

Reef and Dune has a variety of foods on the menu, ranging from pizza, to tasty seafood or juicy grilled options. There is something for meat lovers and vegetarians alike! And the best place to relax… On their deck under a brolly with a fine mist spray cooling you after an exhausting day on the beach.

The friendly staff are always welcoming, well trained, knowledgable of their menus and efficient. The restaurant is not only child friendly with a playground/jungle gym, but they welcome your four legged family members as well, and offer them bowls of water to quench their thirst. Our Jack Russell Pepper’s favourite spot, after his exhausting “walkies” around town while we take a milkshake pitstop.

The restaurant is divided up into a series of seating areas to suit all possible comfort requirements. The outdoor deck which has a soft, gentle, cooling mist spray and brollies to shield you from the hot African sun, an indoor nautically themed area for when it is cooler or the weather is bad. Small seating areas with comfortable chairs and a coffee table to (ahem) put your feet up on, and then under the thatch where a cool breeze drifts in keeping you sheltered from the heat and the sun. What more can a discerning diner ask for! And last, but not least, a lovely bar area for those not in the mood for a meal, but would prefer an ice cold something.

Below are some Trip Advisor comments that summarise what is good about Reef and Dune and why they deserve recognition and a visit.

  • It has a prominent spot on the main drag next to Heritage Tours. It has a terrace overlooking the street and two indoor seating sections. One modern bright and nautically themed with cool portholes in the kitchen area and the other with the feel of being in a ship’s cabin. Nice coastal photos grace the restaurant. Service is very good and friendly.
  • The atmosphere is very relaxed, the terrace has big wooden tables with candlelights and looks very nice. It is always quite busy, but there was always a table available. The menu is quite extensive with steaks, burgers and pizzas and there is also a daily changing menu.
  • Very much appreciated the efficient service and the involvement of management.
  • The waiters were really exceptional at this restaurant – pleasant, professional and very efficient! Served the best we have ever eaten. Good value for money.
  • Excellent food and service – even when packed to capacity over long weekend. Friendly service. Good variety on menu.
  • Friendly staff! Service excellent and atmosphere relaxed!
  • Its set on the main road and has a vibrant atmosphere.
  • Goof quality food at reasonable prices. Friendly staff, with outdoor seating overlooking the main street.

BON APPETIT!
